What's on Offer?

Overview: An opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the role of Seasonal Museum Guide/Gardener in Muttaburra. You will be responsible for guiding and conducting tours of the Cassimatis Museum and the Dr Arratta Museum, whilst promoting the region as a whole. You will also be responsible for assisting with the performance and implementation of daily horticultural maintenance tasks to ensure that Museum gardens are presented to a high standard.

Location: This position is based in Muttaburra with Regional Work and Travel as required.

Classification Level: Level 3 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award - State 2017 and Barcaldine Regional Council Certified Agreement 2018

Wage: $55,536.00 per annum + Superannuation (up to 12%) and relevant approved allowances

Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly

Hours of work: 4 hours per day, 5 days a week

Leave: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on an Assessment of any Applicant's ability to demonstrate their successful past performance, or their perceived abilities to be able to successfully perform and deliver services, against the following:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in horticulture and undertaking gardening maintenance activities;
  2. Demonstrated ability to work under limited supervision exercising leadership, initiative and sound judgement;
  3. Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to think strategically and develop creative solutions;
  4. Demonstrated ability to cooperatively work in a team environment, contributing positively to team operations;
  5. Demonstrated effective communication skills (written and verbal), and well developed interpersonal skills;
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service;
  7. Demonstrated knowledge or ability to gain an understanding of Quality Assurance and Environmental procedures; and 
  8. Demonstrated a good understanding of how to maintain a safe working environment, and commitment to Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Additional requirements:

  • Completion of a National Criminal History Check to Council’s satisfaction; and
  • Completion of a Pre-employment Medical Examination to Council’s satisfaction
