What's on Offer?

Overview: Barcaldine Regional Council is seeking an organised professional with demonstrated extensive experience in leadership and management to fill the role of Director of Works. This position provides leadership and expert advice to the Works department to ensure effective service delivery in the context of Council’s strategies, goals, policies and priorities.

Location: This position is based in the Barcaldine Executive Office with Regional work and travel as required.

Wage: Package to be negotiated + Superannuation (up to 12%) and relevant approved allowances

Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly

Leave: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on an Assessment of any Applicant's ability to demonstrate their successful past performance, or their perceived abilities to be able to successfully perform and deliver services, against the following: -

  1. Demonstrated extensive experience and a proven track record of achieving consistent results at an executive or senior management level in a local government or similar corporate business organisation managing human, financial and physical resources;
  2. Demonstrated ability to shape strategic thinking, drive tactical planning and achieve implementation of complex strategies and programs;
  3. Demonstrated proven capability to cultivate productive working relationships through a collaborative and responsive style;
  4. Demonstrated evidence of being able to develop a workplace culture which is aligned to the values of Council;
  5. Demonstrated experience in successfully managing multi-disciplinary technical teams with complex areas of responsibility in a local government works or similar corporate business environment;
  6. Demonstrated well-developed knowledge of the legislative framework in a local government environment;
  7. Demonstrated advanced computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office Suite, records management systems and internal computer systems;
  8. Demonstrated commitment to Workplace Health and Safety with a good understanding of how to maintain a safe working environment;

Additional requirements:

Completion of a National Criminal History Check to Council’s satisfaction; and

Completion of a Pre-employment Medical Examination to Council’s satisfaction.
